Rib fracture: Rib fractures are usually treated conservatively and there is no specific cast. This mostly means pain control. Some people use braces but they are of questionable clinical value.  Most fracture heal spontaneously without any problems.

Gnenrslly nothing: It depends on the severity and if there is an associated flail chest or punctured lung or hemopneumothorax which require urgent care. However in the vast majority of cases nothing is done.

Very unusual: Coughing from pertussis can lead to rib fracture.  I previously coughed while holding a heavy object in one hand at a strange angle. My physician was shocked that i snapped a rib clear in half - in this case it was torque or the laws of physics in play (vice pathology). So - it is possible to break a rib while coughing - but not usual.

Possibly.: It may be difficult, because as your breathing rate rises with exercise, it could cause pain from the fractured rib.

Multiple meds: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, narcotics, anti seizure medicine, and antidepressants. If severe, an intercostal nerve block can relieve the rib pain.

Might: Rib fracture can happen very easily specially if you have osteoporosis.
What you should be concern and see a doctor, if you feel shortness of breath.
