There are medical methods which can seperate the x y chromosome or have embryo selection through in vitro fertilization.

IUI: I believe that selecting sperm via a technology that seperated male and female sperm is available.  Otherwise I am not sure of a reliable method but look up sperm and vaginal ph.  There may be a correlation to the vaginal environment and the survival of male vs female sperm.  I think the relationship is marginal but look up the topic.

If you're trying to conceive eat a healthy diet, avoid smoking and heavy alcohol, and take a prenatal vitamin with at least 800 micrograms (mcg) of Folic Acid every day.

Yes : Take prenatal vitamins.  Eat healthy.  Make sure you are caught up on your vaccinations.  Have a pap smear done if you have not had one in the last 12-24 months.  Find an ob/gyn and see her/him and let your doctor know you are planning on getting pregnant.  Your doctor will guide you.
