Life's about balance: Life is about balance. Do everything in moderation. Too much of a good thing can be bad. In other words, don't overdo the prune juice. If trying to treat constipation, a person needs to work with his doctor to find the cause of the constipation. After finding the cause, treatment can be done with several methods (several means not needing to overuse one method).

Look at your diet: Make sure you have at least 5-7 servings of cooked vegetables, and also some fruit to increase your ruffle in your diet. Processed foods can lead to constipation. Prune juice can help, but get to the cause and address it. Also make sure you drink enough liquids and exercise. These will help you have regular BM. Avoid sugary &amp; diet drinks, desserts, fast/fried foods too. Eat whole organic foods.

Yes: Daily prune juice is safe. Avoid too much milk as it can cause constipation (less than 18 to 20 ounces a day). Mac and cheese is also constipating.  Lots of fruits and veggies are good if possible. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) and milk of magnesia are safe in children if you need a medication.

Yes OK, ideal but...: It's fine to give a 5 yo prune juice, a safe and gentle laxative. No one absolutely needs to have a bowel movement every single day, though I believe it is best for our health to do so. But if the child has no distress it is not essential. Minimize need for prune juice with a high-fiber diet (rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts), lots of water and physical activity.Probiotics may help too.

See your doctor: If you've tried all of that and still no bowel movement consult your doctor. You may have impacted stool or a colonic obstruction of some kind.

IN the end: If nothing has worked you can try a suppository. This can be gotten at most chemists (Pharmacy) or an enema. This should be ok as you are young and most likely healthy Try it but you may not like it
