See a doctor: If you have been having unprotected intercourse for a year and can't get pregnant, you  should see a fertility doctor or your gyn. If you are just worried about it, you should try first before seeking out medical help. The tests we use are only useful on couples who have infertility.

Yes: At 41 you most likely have some fertility remaining especially if you are still having regular menstrual cycles.  See your gyn and ask questions, lots of them!  the answer is ddiffereent for everyone.

No: You need a sperm sample. It would be difficult to do this without his knowledge.

Infertility ?: The recommended length of attempts is 9-12 months before an infertility workup.  If your periods are regular (24-34 days apart), and you have ovulated (check with ovulation kit), get a semen analysis done, and if all else is normal, ask your gyn provider about a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), a simple x-ray with instillation of sterile liquid to determine open tubes.

Yes: Your work up will depend upon your age and any previous medical problems. If you have not been successful ttc for 6-12 mos., your provider may want to do an us and hormonal tests on you  and a semen analysis on your partner.

No direct test: There is no blood test that directly tests for fertility.  You can test for the LH surge--this predicts ovulation--the time you are fertile.  Blood tests are also used to test for causes of infertility such as hypothyroidism, anovulation, etc.  Best wishes!

my prolactin level is 44 being sent for a mri should i be worried? the last it was checked a month ago it was 48. my fertility dr is sending me.

Fertility MD advice: Your fertility md is ordering the MRI to see if there is a visible growth in the brain causing the elevation. So, follow up with your md after the mri, and either way it can be treated with medication and worry is not needed.
