Yes: You should avoid dairy products while taking tetracycline, NOT doxycycline. One of the advantages of doxycycline is no dietary restrictions. You do need to be careful of the sun. Fluconazole also has no dietary restrictions.

Sure, probably: Both caffeine and doxycycline can cause gastrointestinal irritation, e.g. acid symptoms or nausea, which might be worse if the two are taken together. If that happens, just don&#x27;t have coffee of the antibiotic within an hour of each other. Beyond that, no worries at all.

Varies: While it is best not to drink alcohol with any antibiotic treatment it is not prohibited with the doxycycline.  If you just drink an occasional drink then it may not have a problem.  However alcohol tends to eliminate the medication faster from your system so the effectiveness of the medication can be diminished.  Be careful in this respect.  Hope this helps.

Wine with antibiotic: If you have an infection requiring an antibiotic, in this case doxycycline, you quite probably should not be using alcohol. However, the sun will not fail to shine if you sneak a rare glass of wine.

Accepted Answer

Good question: Doxycycline may have a somewhat limited absorption when taken with calcium or iron containing foods, because it will 'chelate' or bind to those minerals and may not absorb quite as well. Ideally, you could take the doxycycline with a full glass of water, THEN eat 30 min or so after that... There can be nausea as a side effect though, so you might need to eat something to help with that.

Unwise.: Alcohol wold be expected to affect the metabolism of both drugs; and it can also bring out side effects that wouldn't be there otherwise.  You mention two antibiotics, so presumably you are treating an infection; alcohol interferes with your immune responses to an infection.

: Doxy is less effective if taken with dairy products at the same time. Allow 2 hours before or after eating when you take the doxy.
