Not unsafe: There is no such thing; just getting pregnant can be unsafe! the bigger problem is the emotional state of the mother. She must be a wreck. 
Many women have many losses - a work-up is indicated after 3 consecutive losses in the 1st trimester. The good news is that despite the many losses, the chances of a successful pregnancy is still 60-70%.

Get thru not over: You don't get over the grief, you get through it in stages.First, it is important to know you didn't cause the miscarriage.Pregnancies end for many reasons you and your doctor can't control.This is a very personal loss that others often can't appreciate.A famous researcher defined the stages of the grief process(denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance). Give it time. I am sorry for your loss.

Miscarriage?: If you had a positive pregnancy test at one point, and a delayed but heavier "period", get a serum HCG test , which is much more accurate than "home tests".  Even if you experienced a miscarriage, it is very common with first pregnancies, and does not really affect your future fertility significantly.

Couple of periods: I usually recommend you wait ipintil you have 2 normal periods to allow your body to heal. The problem is, it may be a while before you have the first period. The hormones of the pregnancy have to drop down until you go through your first ovulation.

2 menstrual cycles: I would wait for 2 normal menstrual cycles and then try again. In the mean time, I will take Folic Acid 1mg daily. Do some basic tests to see if there is any condition that might have contributed to the miscarriage and treat it first. Most times we do not find a reason. However, it is definitely worth doing a thyroid test. Good Luck.

Wait one cycle : I usually advise patients to have at least one normal menstrual cycle before trying again. That's all you need. Good luck!
