: Most oral hormonal birth control products should be taken at around the same time each day, but usually do not require so much precision.  Usually and hour or so should not be a problem. That said, no type of birth control is 100% effective.  In the situation you describe, pregnancy is highly unlikely. If your period is late, check a pregnancy test.

Around ovulation: There is nothing that will assure a pregnancy. The best time to try is around the time of ovulation, or best shortly before. For most women this is around mid-cycle, women with irregular cycles may be harder to pinpoint. Counting cycle days, following temperatures, home OPK are often helpful. Fertility specialists and some ob-gyn's can help you time this very precisely.

Sure: A girl or a woman who is in her childbearing years (beginning from the year of her first menstrual period to the year of her final menstrual period)... CAN get pregnant on her first time having sex. That means if she does not want to get pregnant, she must not have sex yet, until she has properly prepared birth control methods such as condoms or birth control pills.

Depends: Proper use of condoms require that they be applied before any intercourse, fit well &amp; be replaced for any new session. When this is done, likelihood of pregnancy is minimal. Semen is produced by the excited penis continuously &amp; contains enough sperm to cause pregnancy.As long as there is never any possibility that semen reaches your genitals you are safe.

It doesn't matter...: A pregnancy test works the same way, regardless of whether a woman continues having sex or avoids having sex.  That means she doesn't need to avoid having sex.  However, if she continues to have sex, a negative pregnancy test means she did not get pregnant over 2-3 weeks ago (but still could be pregnant from recent sex within the last 1-10 days).
