: Depression can certainly be genetic &amp; thus can be inherited &amp; likely as a dominant feature so there is 50:50 chance of parent sufferring from depression can pass it to any one of their chidren. Inheritance of anxiety is another matter, living with someone with anxiety is sufficient to makw another anxious. Very important to self recognize depression and get help, can be dangerous not to get  help.

It happens: As a pathologist, the emotional autopsy following a homicide or suicide is part of our work. Bullying is deplorable and the fact that we ignored it for centuries or considered it "part of building character" is equally deplorable. Despite all the attention it is rightly getting, i believe that more child / teen suicides result from emotional or physical abuse by parents than by peers.

Just one is too many: We don't have an exact number. In the US suicide is the third leading cause of death amongst teenagers and adolescents. A British study reported 44% of suicides occurring in kids 10 to 14 was caused by bullying. Those bullied often remain silent until the emotional trauma is eventually no longer tolerable. Cyberbullying is a particularly malignant form of bullying.

Counseling : I am sorry for your loss and what you are experiencing. Such a traumatic event is likely to cause PTSD and/or depression. You or your family doctor can enquiry as to whether your medical aid has PMB or psychiatry benefit for this and what will be covered

If you do have this benefit then see a psychiatrist who can assess you and decide if an application can be made to authorize this benefit.
