The short answer is: yes, you can treat the blepharitis with a variety of treatments. The American Academy of Ophthalmology advises a variety of treatments depending upon the etiology (cause) of your blepharitis. This can range from eyelid hygiene with OTC lid scrubs or baby shampoo, to topical and even oral antibiotic treatment. Have your ophthalmologist look at the margins to identify the cause.

Be weary!!: Be very careful! most over the counter dry-eye drops are not approved with contact lenses! even some that say 'contact lens' on it are still not approved. The only ones I am aware of is optive ( plain optive, not optive refresh) and drops that are preservative free. Be careful.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes.  It is safe but you should use preservative free artificial tears and do not use them within 30 minutes of the other medications.

Accepted Answer

Combination of meds: Steroid eye drops should only be used for allergic conjunctivitis and not for dry eyes. It is safe to use nasal steroid sprays in conjunction with antihistamine tablets. The nasal steroid sprays are the most effective treatment for nasal allergies and can sometimes also help the eye symptoms.

Depends: The type of drops which will be most effective for you depends on the root cause of your dryness. Your best bet is to be evaluated by an eye doctor who can recommend a treatment plan tailored to you.

please may i know what causes dry eyes. i noticed patches in my eyes and heard to use lubricating eye drops. is this okay?

Many things.: Dry eyes can be secondary to diseases like arthritis, and many related conditions, age, drugs, like antihistamines and birth control medications. Difficult to say what you describe as "patches" is, but the could be pinguecula, normal deposits of fat on the conjunctiva, nasal side or ear side. These are nothing to be concerned about. If red, painful or enlarging, see an eye doctor.

i have very dry eyes. i roll my eyes because it makes them feel better but it's becoming a problem. my eyes sting alot but i can't use eye drops?

Artificial tears: I would advise the use of artificial tears / lubricating eye drops. Those are relatively benign. Follow up with an ophthalmologist to make sure there isn't a secondary reason for your dry eyes.

do i get more uv damage with wet eyes or dry eyes? i use lubricating eye drops every two hours. i always avoid the sun and bright sunlight after putting in drops, until eyes dry. should i continue this precaution or is it okay to get sun in wet eyes?

Keep wet: The eye drops should prevent sun damage. Drying of the eyes can be part of the development of keratitis.  I am unaware of any literature that suggests the wetting the eyes intensifies the rays and makes them more prone to sun injury. In fact treatment for sunburned eyes is saline drops.

are there good natural cures for dry eyes? i dont want to use drugs and medicated eye drops if i can help it. ive read that flaxseed oil can help make tears more oily so they dont evaporate so fast. is this true? are there any other natural solutions?

Yes, : Yes, using flaxseed oil may help make tears more oily, which may help stabilize your tear film. Other things you can do is good lid hygiene which is described on our website:

artificial tears purchased over-the-counter, are not really "medicated eye drops", and my patients find significant relief from dry eyes when used with the methods mentioned above.

i suspect i have dry eyes but my vision appointment isnt until may 16th. what can i do in the meantime to treat it. can i use refresh eye drops even if im not sure if its dry eye yet. im experiencing blurry vision and watery eyes?

: Can you get advice from the ophthalmologist about what he/she recommends you do until your appointment?  I would suggest applying warm compresses to your eye lids if the are reddened or itchy and also using refresh eye drops according to instructions.
