took herpes swab test for hsv-1 and hsv2 on 1/15/21. they told me it takes 3 days and if positive theyll call me. i havent heard from them. are they required to call and tell me or call and diagnose me if its positive or can they just not call?

Possibilities:  Licensed providers within the state of Texas are expected to provide timely notification of test results. The definition of timely varies. However, there are flaws in any system. They may/not have accurate contact information where you can be reached. Some results can only be provided directly to the person, not an intermediary. Call them back for your results.

Herpes simplex: These lesions are usually characteristic and difficult to mistake for acne. If the culture was negative it is unlikely to be Herpes, but without seeing these it is impossible to really tell.

HSV blood test: Risk is very low if partner didn't have a herpes outbreak at the time. The HSV blood tests aren't perfect. The HSV1 test misses 30% of infections, and HSV2 often gives false positive results. If you get genital or oral blisters, sores, sore throat, etc, get tested 3-4 weeks after symptoms start. Otherwise probably best not to be tested; or if you really need the reasurance, wait until 4 months.

Wait for tests: It can be as short as 1 day or ir the test must be sent out to a  lab outside your facility then 2-4 days.

Herpes Testing: In the U.S. I get these test results within 48 hours. I am unsure what the norms would be in canada.

PCR, culture, blood: If there is a herpes lesion (blister, ulcer, etc), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for HSV DNA is best. A culture test is OK, but misses more cases. Both are on swab specimens. If no lesions, blood test for HSV antibody. But due to controversial recommendations of Public Health Canada, blood tests are less available in your country than all others. Blood takes a few weeks to turn positive.

No problem: Menstruation won't interfere with testing for HSV. Anyway, presumably the provider to collected the swab knew you were menstruating, and would have said something if there were any concerns about it.

Question vague but: If a person sees a cold sore on the lip that looks like a typical herpes cold sore, there is no need to test for herpes if it is obviously herpes. However, if wanting to test to see if it is Herpes 1 or Herpes 2, the test is accurate for IgG at that time because the cold sore is a recurrence, meaning the person had caught the virus sometime earlier in life and should have IgG by recurrence time.

: By far the main cause of mouth or lip ulcers is herpes; this might just be a worse than usual recurrence of your longstanding infection. Two weeks is too long for symptoms of a new HSV infection, and anyway you are immune to a new infection with HSV type 1. To confirm the likely diagnosis,have an HSV PCR test from the ulcers ASAP -- within 2-3 days of onset, if possible. Good luck.

Herpes : Herpes is caused by a virus that can lie dormant in the body for years.  Because of this, you can catch it from someone who has never even had any symptoms.  Since you had a negative test in june and a positive test now, it's safe to say you probably contracted herpes sometime between then and now, but when and from who cannot be determined.  Either partner could have transmitted it to you and your outbreak would not have necessarily coincided with when you contracted it.
