Not too soon: If you had intercourse during ovulation then you should be about 4 days late.  Many otc tests are accurate enough to pick up a positive pregnancy.          Remember, however, there is only a 15 percent conception rate per cycle.  So don't fret if it doesn't happen the first try.  We recommend trying for a year before seeking medical evaluation.

Pregnancy test : Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.  If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

: If your cycles are not predictable (i.e., 24-34 days apart) obtain a home pregnancy test 18-20 days after unprotected sexual activity, and if negative, repeat with an HCG test 10 days later.  The testing depends on when ovulation took place relative to potential pregnancy. If the HCG test is negative, see your GYN physician to evaluate whether polycystic ovarian syndrome may be the cause.

Can retest in 1 week: A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. If a woman gets her normal regular period, then she is not pregnant, and a test is not needed.

See below: You can see your doctor, who can perform a serum quantitative test.  Anything greater than 10 miu/cc HCG indicates pregnancy. The newer home pregnancy tests turn postive up to 72 hours prior to your expected period.

: Home pregnancy testing is generally accurate, and if a test "27 days" after unprotected intercourse is negative, the chance of pregnancy is near zero unless recent sexual activity occurred.

3 days: The new tests are pretty accurate- but most people wait for the week after they miss the period. Hopefully if you wish to get pregnant you will -- it was one of the happiest days of my life (and i bought several pregnancy tests).

You : You can either take a home pregnancy test as long as it has been 5- 6 weeks since your last normal period (3-4 weeks since having unprotected sex), or you can go see your doctor and they can test you. A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period or 3-4 weeks after conception.  A blood test can tell if you are pregnant as soon as 7 days after conception and a doctor's urine pregnancy test can tell if you are pregnant around when you next period should come.
