Whats Ur gut tell U: There are a variety of rash producing viruses that have little importance to the real scheme of things & most can be managed at home. If the kid is playful for most of his/her day, feeding & wetting diapers as usual, i see little need for an office visit. I truly believe mom's are pre-wired with a sense of their own child's needs & can tell if they need to come in. Do what you're comfortable with.

1 in 5 will have one: Symptoms of fifth disease (aka erythema infectiosum) come in two phases. About 1 week after exposure and lasting 2-3 days, the first phase symptoms of headache, fever, sore throat and itch are common in approximately 20% of cases. There is a symptom free period for 7-10 days before the second phase occurs which involves a rash on the cheeks or body. It is no longer infectious when the rash appears.

HFM pattern varies: It is triggered by one of a few gut virus strains and show no rash, isolated rash on hand, foot, mouth, anus or all &amp; in mouth. The label derives from a time we had no lab to confirm the viral cause, just the observed rash &amp; pattern of spread. Fifths never has blisters. Without seeing it, it is hard to confirm/exclude.

Fifths : Fifths disease is a common, relatively harmless viral infection - most often seen in kids and characterized by red cheeks followed by a lacy rash on the arms, legs and body. Some people will also have fever for a day or two. It typically resolves on its own without treatment. The only time we really worry about this virus is if it infects someone who is pregnant or someone with a chronic blood disease such as sickle cell anemia, thalessemia, or spherocytosis. The virus can stop the bone marrow from producing red blood cells for a short period of time.  This does not usually affect a healthy person, but can affect someone who's red blood cells are not normal in the first place.  I attached a website with more information about fifths disease. If she has a chronic blood disease, if her paleness continues, or if she is acting sick at all, give her doctor a call. Good luck!

Normal: The fever, while usually with the rash in Fifth's disease, can occur at any point in the illness. SO your child's development of the fever now is certainly within the normal course of the illness. Have them stay away from pregnant people if at all possible until completely back to normal health.

To some extent....: Parvovirus (the cause of fifth disease) can cause fevers that last a bit longer than your average fever causing virus. The longest I have seen fever last is about 5 days. After that, i would want to start thinking about other causes of fever.

Fifth's Disease: The rash does not usually hurt. Try applying calamine lotion or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) cream to his skin to make him more comfortablr.

Not 5 th disease : Her symptoms suggests some other viral illness, if she still has fever and the rash see the doctor. This could be some other viral illness
