is it normal to not see completely clear when getting new glasses? it's still slightly blurry like before the glasses. how long should i wait to know?

You should be able: to see clearly within a few minutes of wearing new glasses but it might take a few days to completely adjust to them. If they are still blurry after a few days you should check with your provider to be certain the correct prescription has been made.

Try dimestore: It sounds like mostly your have near vision issues.  Were the lost glasses bifocals?  With a distance correction you needed?  If not you can buy $10 glasses and do very well by them.  And if you just want something in the meanwhile, el cheapo glasses are not a major investment and can be used later as a back up.

Usually you can tell: within a few days if the prescription is not correct. I wouldn't wait too long before checking with your health care provider.

was having trouble seeing text on computer unless i looked over top of glasses. went to vision center & got new glasses but can not pick them up because corona virus caused business to be closed. is it ok to get reading glasses to see text or wait.

Reading glasses yes: It would be quite reasonable to try low power (+1.25) reading glasses to see if they help, while waiting to pick up your new glasses

3 weeks: You may be able to be seen sooner, but why rush this if you are planning on buying new glasses.  Sometimes you have to wait longer if the virus affects the cornea.

No: Being skinny, or low hb a1c does not explain your refractive errors in the eye. It would be prudent for you to exercise and eat some protein rich foods like beans, lentils, legumes, nuts and lean meats.

Amsler grid: No you should be tested with a simple amsler grid available in all eye offices to see if you are developing macular or retinal trouble.

Yes.: As you age, there are natural changes that occur in one's eye that can result in one no longer needing glasses because their refractive correction has changed. An example would be a far sighted (hyperopic) patient requiring less of a hyperopic correction as a result of cataract development as one ages. This results in the lens of the eye becoming thicker resulting in a more myopic correction.

Blurred vision: If the distance vision has become blurred with your current glasses so that it is difficult to see road signs, drive at night, read tv print, etc. Then a new prescription may be needed.  If for reading, new glasses may be needed if you feel eyestrain symptoms, if you have to hold material further away to read, or if the near vision is blurred or fluctuates in clarity.

Not often: Glasses are needed when the vision changes noticeably or you lose or break the old ones.  Eyeglass makers and optometrists are obsessed with having folks come in annually and almost always find a "change"  this is marketing.  Be careful when a recommendation for new glasses is made especially in the face of an annual examination.
