i had pes and have been told that they've cleared up, but i still have breathing troubles. what could be wrong?

BREATHE EASY: Could still be recurrent PEs.  Your previous PEs could have resulted in some element of chronic lung disease.  Could also be some other heart or lung disorder.  Best bet... prompt follow-up with your primary care physician.

hi i have a baby that is 3 months old and is whizzing alot while breathing can i use a nebuliser to clear his chest and for how long and what to use?

Not without doc: Just because you have such a machine &amp; possibly meds to use in it does not mean self treating an infant is a good idea. There are a number of worrisome lung or heart issues that can trigger wheezing in an infant. Without a review of past history &amp; direct exam you could delay proper treatment or make the condition worse. If cleared by the doc, it might be something used to help.

shortness of breathing esp. during work, but normal heartbeat. clear lungs. goes away if i lie down. non smoker. should i be worried?

Maybe: shortness of breath with exertion can be normal if the level of activity is extreme but if you are short of breath with exertion that would not make others short of breath then you should see a physician to be evaluated as there are many potential causes of this, some of which are serious.

most of the day my nose is blocked, it effects my breathing. what can be done for this? sometimes its nice and clear but doesnt last long

Nasal obstruction: It sounds like you need to start by seeing an ENT specialist to rule out any anatomical problems such as deviated  septum or enlarged turbinates . Once that is taken care of &amp; depending on the problem , you may or may not need to see sn allergist . Good luck .

when laying down, i can hear "fine crackles" when i inhale only. open mouth and it gets louder. no fever or breathing issues, no history asthma. what?

Some basics: The crackles you hear are likely the opening of tiny airways leading to air exchange within your lung. This can be part of under-inflated areas or a sign of fluid retention in lung spaces. It can also occur in asthma &amp; infectious states. As long as you are functioning okay you have time to schedule a visit with your regular doc to check this out. I would not ignore it. It may be a warning.

my 3 yo son has crackles and wheezing, labored breathing and dry cough. has no fever or runny nose, feels well otherwise and playing like usual, saturation 98%. just that breathing and noises make me concerned. could that be pneumonia without fever?

: This is more likely to represent a mild asthma event, but some viral lower respiratory infections will trigger this response. Some of these will run little or no fever. The need for medical attention or treatment depends on how comfortable the kid is. Running around playing, not so much, staying quietly in one place &amp; working to breathe= go see the doc.

it appears there is air trap under my left ribs and it is affecting my breathing along with excruciating pain/ what is the remedy to assist in clearing this?

: The feeling could be due to many reasons eg a local strain/sprain fracture. Best is to see your doc soon . Sometimes local heat and Ibuprofen help while you wait to see the doc

NO!!!: No steam is boiling water in vapor form and could burn your lungs.  Now cold steam will not work either. Cells in the lung called macrophages will "clean" the lungs over time. Avoid smoke.

when my 6 month old sleeps he makes a sort of humming noise.  is this normal?  he is breathing 45 breaths per minute on average his nose is clear

Accepted Answer

Normal: Everything you're hearing is completely normal. Adults makes noises in their sleep and so do babies.
