i was diagnosed with chlamydia 2 days ago by my gp and he gave me 6 azithromycin 250mg to drink 2 daily. the problem is today is my last day of drinking them and the symptoms still don't go away. does it take longer for the symptoms to disappear?

Give it time: I would not expect any change in symptoms in less than a week if not a little longer. The med you are taking is somewhat different than many others. It attaches to fat cells in your body and leaks out into your blood over a 2+ week period to do its work. This allows it to be given in a short time while working much longer.

Here are some ...: Being not symptomatically improved despite having repeatedly taken antibiotics over 8 months would raise the question if your Sx is truly related with chlamydia trachomatis. So, one needs to delve into deeper layer of causes for producing your symptoms such as those related with non-infection bladder issue or referring pain, etc. So, with these in mind, see and work with Doc for a more productive.

Then it needs to: Be reevaluated to see if u still have the chlamydia and needs to be retreated with a diffenet med since it can be resistant sometimes to the first med or u could have a secondary infection, please see your gyn or go to the er this weekend.

Maybe gonorrhea?: Are you sure the test wasn't positive for gonorrhea, not chlamydia? No injection treats chlamydia -- at least none that is commonly used -- but gonorrhea is treated with a shot of the antibiotic ceftriaxone. If gonorrhea, symptoms should stop getting worse within a day and start improving after that. For chlamydia, it's somewhat slower. For both, complete clearing may take a week or more.

Chlamydia: Most people will notice improvement in symptoms within a few days of treatment for chlamydia. If you are still having symptoms after a week, you should definitely go back to your doctor and be evaluated. You may have another infection that wasn't treated.

Chlamydia: no it should not take any longer to cure it. You may want to return to your doctor after treatment to be rechecked for a cure.  Discuss this with your doctor.

4 days: Symptoms should improve after 24 - 48 hours. All sexual partners must also be treated, otherwise you either get reinfected, or partner/ex-partner may pass it on to someone else.
