Hours usually: For most people their eyes are undilated after 4-6 hours. However, for some it is less, and occasionally, some people can have theirs dilated somewhat for 24-48 hours. The symptoms of light sensitivity and decreased near vision usually resolve within 4-6 hours though.

There are: systemic (pills) medicines for some cases of dry eye plus some NEWER drops....get a second opinion!

i had multiple vision at morning time on sudden light for about 10-15 min. and i have burning sensation in eyes.i have been to eye doctor, after 3 days of these symptoms , i was told every thing was normal . am i normal or visit doctor again ?

Light flashes: There should be a reason for your problem. Should be seen by an ophthalmologist to find the cause.

For comfort: Your pupils are opened with drops to help visualize the posterior portion of the eye - optic nerve and retina.  They cannot help you reduce the intensity of brights lights for a few hours - the dark glasses help with the discomfort.

Dilation: the length of time that you remain dilated after an eye exam can be related both to the strength of the dilating drops being used and your iris color. 
There are some dilating drops that can have an effect for as long as two weeks although these are not typically used for routine exam. 
A usual length of time that eyes can remain dilated is often 4 to 8 hours.

my eye doctor doesn't dilate my eyes during an eye exam, shouldn't they?

Yes they should!: Dilation of the eyes is part of a complete eye examination. The examiner cannot see the entire retina without dilating the eyes and it makes looking at certain parts of the such as the macula and optic nerve much easier after dilating. If you are seeing the doctor for a specific problem not involving the retina, you will not necessarily need dilation.

No worry necessary: Many people -especially those with light colored eyes- slowly metabolize the dilating medications. 
The effect of diagnostic dilating eye-drops can last over 24 hours and make you quite sensitive to sunlight.
Dilating Drops that are used to treat certain eye conditions can last  up to 2 weeks.

"Post-mydriatic": Mydriasis is pupillary dilation and without pupillary constriction, bright lights can dazzle you or even cause a temporary bleaching of the retina. Pharmacologic dilation for diagnostic testing and examination can last 3 or more hours, depending on the drops used and the color of your eyes, with lighter colors lasting longer.  The near vision is typically more impaired than the distance.
