Days...: Headaches after a concussion can last several days and in more severe concussions, weeks. If you are having headaches after a head injury see your primary care physician.Other diagnoses including bleeds adjacent to the brain and the brain lining( dura) need to be ruled out . Do not delay!

Varying durations: Post concussion headaches are of several types.  Typical achy headaches that worsen over the day may last from days to as long as a year.  Post. Concussion migraine is the triggering migraine in someone with a family history of migraine and on e triggered will usually follow the pattern of family members who have migraine.

You should see a Doc: If you sustained a concussion a year ago and are still having headaches, you need to be examined by a Neurosurgeon or Neurologist who specializes in post concussive syndrome.  At a minimum you should have a CT or MRI of brain done.  Are you having other symptoms like neck pain or memory problems?  Good luck

It may not be...: The headaches that are apparently causing your doc to recommend rest. Rather the headaches are signs that your brain tissue is still healing, & hence, needs to be rested. Please ask your doc (neurologist?) to clarify this for you @ help you understand their thoughts on the criteria for you to start work again. Part time and light duty might be a good starting point.

If headaches: are related to concussion it's too early. If due to another issue like a concomitant whiplash ( neck ) injury you can ( and probably  should ) do some activities that might speed recovery from the neck / upper back muscle spasm.  Avoid even mental gymnastics in the early stages of recovery from TBI as it increases the metabolic demands in the recovering brain.   Recovery varies -two years or less

Varies: some stop after a few weeks, some can last months.  There are meds to help relieve these.  Ask doc for recommendations.

two days ago, i did a forward roll on a spring floor at a gym. i had a headache before the roll, and it got much worse after. the bad headache lasted all night but was dissipated the next morning. could i have caused a concussion from a forward roll?

: Doubt it. Without passing out immediately, memory loss, dizziness immediately I can't buy into a concussion. Headache is common to the point of being intense from minor trauma. If you would sleep better having an exam, go see your doc and take a list of all related symptoms.

Concussion: You don't have to have a loss of consciousness to have suffered a minor concussion.  A headache is a very common after effect of a concussion.  Any headache that is severe and intolerable after a head injury needs to be evaluated by a physician.

Concussion treatment: The mainstay of concussion treatment i'd cognitive and physical rest followed by a gradual increase in activity. If symptoms return from increase activity continue rest.   Recovery from concussion is variable person to person. Seek the advice of your doctor.
