Fungus/yeast infectn: Thrush is Candida Albicans infection, a common fungus or yeast.  Common in babies, under dentures, or if your resistance is comprimised.  Usually white surface which can be rubbed off to reveal a red base.  Also can be at the corners of the mouth.  Treat the cause, and or use anti-fungal medicines.  
Contagious?  Shouldn't be.  Candida is "normal flora".

Fungal infection: Thrush is a fungal infection of the mouth, and typically only occurs in people with suppressed immune systems (e.g. Hiv, chemotherapy, taking long course of corticosteroids, etc).   The hallmark symptoms are pain and difficulty swallowing.

Not contagious: Oral thrush is a fungal infection of the oral membranes, and usually occurs in people whose immune status are reduced.  This can occur in people on antibiotics, in diabetics or immunosuppressed due to other illnesses or cancer.  Certain other medications can increase the risk as well.  This is typically not contagious.  Treatments range from 7 - 10 days.

Potentially.: Thrush is an infection of the oral cavity caused by yeast (candida). Most individuals with a healthy immune system have good resistance to yeast infections, so kissing is usually safe. But there can be confounding factors. Steroids such as oral Prednisone or inhaled steroids for asthma; numerous antibiotics (oral or iv) can predispose to yeast infections. Clearly hiv/chemo patients are more prone.
