i've read some doctors on here say that chlamydia is no longer contagious after 48hrs. after taking azithromycin... is that true?

Perspective: I don't know if there is a true scientific answer for this. Most doctors recommend 7 to 14 days before unprotected intercourse. I retest all of my patients to make sure the infection has gone. Why the urgency ?  Keep it in perspective though. Being treated for a sexually transmitted diseases is a big deal.

Stop sex, see MD: The shot (probably ceftriaxone) was for gonorrhea, not BV. Bartholin gland infection can be caused by  gonorrhea, chlamydia, BV bacteria, and others. You shouldn't be having sex with these problems until all symptoms cleared up. Return to your doctor for re-evaluation and probably additional antibiotics(s). Partner also needs treatment if not yet done.  Good luck!

i was diagnosed with chlamydia 2 days ago by my gp and he gave me 6 azithromycin 250mg to drink 2 daily. the problem is today is my last day of drinking them and the symptoms still don't go away. does it take longer for the symptoms to disappear?

Give it time: I would not expect any change in symptoms in less than a week if not a little longer. The med you are taking is somewhat different than many others. It attaches to fat cells in your body and leaks out into your blood over a 2+ week period to do its work. This allows it to be given in a short time while working much longer.

can you take alcohol with azithromycin and if so does it reduce the effects or will it just take longer to heal the chlamydia took the four tablets it's been four days and i've had three glasses of wine in between?

No problem: This amount of alcohol will have no effect at all on healing of your chlamydial infection.

if someone has chlamydia and they take  azithromycin and stops have sex for 7 days, do they no longer have it after the 7 days? if thats so, why does the doctor ask to come back 3 months later?

About perfection...: Life is not perfect. Not everybody who takes a recommend medication gets rid of her infection. Each human is different and may respond differently to the same treatments. The recommended medication is what works in most people. One should follow up with her doctor to be sure the treatment worked and of course, to discuss whether or not there is a need to check for re-infection in the near future.

i have had a reinfection of chlamydia after taking azithromycin 1g. should i then consider a higher dosage? would 1.5g single dose be recommended?

Re infection?: No. A dose for treatment remains the same. The question is why you were not also treated appropriately for a co-infection with gonorrhea and if the re infection is actually a treatment failure because you were not offered the better treatment by treating for both. In my clinic and in many other public health minded experts we always treat for both regardless of test results.

Probably unnecessary: A single 1g dose of azithromycin is highly effective and there should be no need for a second dose. Even if reexposed to an infected partner, azithro remains in the system for 10 days or more, so you would be protected from reinfection. It can take more than 7 days for symptoms to clear, so give it time. If symptoms actually are worse, don't treat yourself but return to doctor for reevaluation.

i was treated for chlamydia with a one dose of 1g of azithromycin two weeks ago and i am still having symptoms. what do i need to take now?

Hard to say: I would contact your treating doc and arrange follow up. You may have a separate issue that co-existed with the chlamydia or require a second/different treatment. Re-testing may sort out your present issue.
