8 days ago in the er i was prescribed 10mg dexamethasone sodium phosphate through iv. would this one time dose affect my immune system? and how long does this typically stay in your system? im ready for it to be out of my system?

Not significantly: This intravenous steroid just mimics the natural stress response of the body (steroid production) but at a higher level. That single infusion is gone from your system now lasting at most a few days. Daily infusions at a therapeutic (high) dose  over days &amp; weeks would suppress the immune response for a significant period. Single infusions have only a mild &amp; transient effect.

Low salt foods: You should avoud frozen foods since they tend to have alot of sodium in them. Do not add salt to your food while it is cooking. Add it when you eat it, since you will tend to add less.

There no excess salt: Body does not have extra salt as long as your kidneys are functioning right
if you consume more salt body retains more water and it keeps the level of salt in your blood at normal level
if you eat less salt body excretes more water through the kidnes and maintains salt level in blood
there are other pathways as well
it is healthy to be on low salt diet, low in sodium.

Water: To flush excess salt from your body, drink several glasses of water, and continue to do so through out the day.  Depending on how much salt there is, a reasonable amount of water to drink would be 6 to 8 glasses of plain water.  In the future, don't eat foods with too much salt.  If you have an elevated salt content in your blood tests, do not do this.  See your doctor immediately.

how long does it take to get aleve (naproxen) out of my system, i think the salt in it is causing edema. im taking advil right now instead. stopped taking it sat?

Naproxen sodium: After three days, naproxen should be out of your system.  Some NSAIDs can cause edema. Restrict your salt intake, especially processed foods for the next few days and see your doctor if edema isn't getting better.

: Diclofenac should be cleared out the system after 3 days but the allergic reaction which was initiated by the drug will take more time to resolve.

See Your Doctor: Epsom Salt is Magnesium (Mg) Sulfate; used to cleanse/soothe minor skin conditions. Soaking can lead to absorption thru skin &amp; raise Mg levels usually without harm. Hypersensitivity reactions can cause skin irritation but usually with rash. Panic attacks: result from anxiety; may manifest as skin sensations eg. tingling, resulting in your leg symptoms; can be successfully treated. See your doctor.

RAAS turn ons: The renin angiotensin aldosterone system is designed to maintain blood volume. It is turned on when there are actual fluid deficits, such as vomiting or dehydration, or deficits perceived by the kidney as those patients with congestive heart failure. As a result of increased activity of the RAAS, urine volume and sodium losses by the kidney decreases. High potassium is possible, as well.

why is cromolyn sodium solution for nebulizers no longer used?

Not available.: This medication is no longer on the market, but i never heard a reason why. Most often, these are business decisions - even if a medication is effective, it will be discontinued if it doesn't generate enough profit for the manufacturer. With cromolyn, however, there probably wasn't enough bang for the buck; inhaled steroids are vastly more effective, and cromolyn was quite expensive.

gained 5lbs water weight in 3 days due to excessive sodium, how can i flush it out?? im taking hydrochlorothiazide 25mg but no longer effective.

Accepted Answer

Diuresis: If you truly have fluid retention you could ask your physician if you could increase the dose to 50 mgs as needed or switch to a more potent diuretic like furosemide. Also ask about taking a potassium supplement with the diuretic. Do not increase your dose of hctz without your physicians OK.
