i've been taking nitrofurantoin for 3 days and experiencing numbness in hands and feet. i called the doctor to switch meds. will this numbness if from the nitrofurantoin go away? how can i flush this medicine out of my system quickly?

: If this is a medication reaction causing toxicity to peripheral nerves, this should dissipate over 3-4 weeks after medication is D/C'd.  Recommend a B-50 complex, once daily over the next 4-6 weeks.  Otherwise, change medication and be patient.

Pain: How you know that the pain is related to your kidneys is the obvious question. If you have had kidney stones previously you need to be seen by a nephrologist or urologist and evaluated thoroughly.  Hopefully you are not on chronic nitrofurantoin. This is a potentially quite dangerous medication, and if you have kidney infection it will do nothing for you. Ciprofloxacin may or may not be helpful.

is it okay to use a tampon while i have a uti? i just got my period as i had to stop taking my birth control in order for the uti antibiotics (nitrofurantoin) to work?

went to the gyno for uti. was given nitrofurantoin 100mgs for 7 days. woke up with severe migraine, nausea and my right eye was blurry. watery diarrhea. only completed first day of treatment. can't speak to my doctor until monday. should i stop?

Macrodantin (nitrofurantoin): Ususally not but when used for long-term chronic suppression of urinary track infections, cases of "macrodantin lung" an allergic reaction with pneumonia can occur.

Yes it will: Usual dose of Macrodantin (nitrofurantoin) is 50 to 100 mgm  4 times a day and taking it once a day will not serve the purpose of taking the drug for urinary tract infection.
