Not used: Marijuana is an ineffective drug for the treatment of glaucoma.  The fact that it has a mild effect on the pressure on the eyes is used as a political (not medical) argument for legalization of this recreational drug.  I tell my patients who tell me they use marijuana for their glaucoma that they are kidding themselves.  Enjoy it for the euphoria it produces, not for glaucoma effect.

cannabis at this time.

Unfavorably!: Obviously the risk is related to the amount of usage, but common sense and the little clinical data available clearly point to marijuana as a problem. It's hard to design us studies with illegal drugs, but it's reasonable to believe pot smoking is at least as harmful as cigarettes, and some experts believe it's many times worse.

Can be effective: Medical marijuana has been legal in colorado for several years, and was approved for recreational use within the past year. It is still illegal under federal law. While marijuana can be an effective treatment for pain and other medical conditions, it is important to be aware of the legal implications.

Will be positive: If you're a regular user, and it sounds like you are, THC will show up in a blood test for up to 3 days.  Urine tests may be positive for the marijuanas metabolite THC-COOH for up to 30 days.  Consider submitting another question to us:  "What are the health effects of long term, regular marijuana use on my health?'"   That's something else you need to know.

No: some people experience lightheadedness the first one or few times they smoke cigarettes, but the effects of nicotine are very subtle.  It is more of a stimulant and does not impair psychomotor performance on such things as driving. THC causes a euphoria, generally sedating, alters time sense and can actually cause hallucinations in some people. Only thing in common is that they are both smoked.
