Depends!: You should have been treated with Doxycycline 100mg bid for at least a month.  Improvement speed  is related to the stage of disease the lyme was found.  You should take an NSAID for pain.  A low dose (2.5mg) of Prednisone in the morning will also help with your arthritis symptoms.

Could be Lyme: If it is, the antibiotic you're taking won't help. Get checked out by a specialist in lyme disease, ask your gp to test for lyme. Igenex labs have most specific/accurate testing, and even then a test can miss the diagnosis sometimes.

how common are fta-abs false positives? concerned that my ongoing joint pain will yield positive results. tested negative last month for ana, ra, lyme, hep a b & c, and hiv. are false positives frequent for those with undiagnosed joint pain?

: Falst positives are rare. But there is no need for FTA-ABS testing anyway, unless a syphilis screening test (like RPR or VDRL) is positive. You should not have an FTA-ABS test just because you have joint pains.

: If you suspect Lyme disease then it is important for you to have a thorough evaluation bya Primary Care Provider. Whatever the problem he or she can refer you to a Specialist for further evaluation if you need it. This is the best way to understand your problem.

Treat Lyme, herbs &: Obviously it is crucial to treat the underlying cause, lyme infection, but while this is being done i advise anti-inflammatory agents. Drugs like Ibuprofen cause GI bleeding so i advise meriva (a very absorbable form of curcumin), boswellia, fish oil & proteolytic ennzymes. Joint pain: You can try an anti-inflammatory but ideally your primary care doctor or an infectious disease specialist can prescribe medication.

Yes.: It occurs. But it may not be do to lyme as well. Irrespective, you should be on a 1-3 month course of doxycline 100 mg bid. Lyme arthritis is unpleasant. Late neurologic disease is unnecessary and worse.

Yes: Lyme disease can cause symmetric polyarthralgias - pain in numerous joints on both sides of the body.  Although rare, lyme disease is usually easy to treat if identifed quickly.  There are blood tests so if you and your dr have a concern, it shoud be pretty quick to rule in/out.

Yes: Generalized aching is a symptom of primary lyme disease. However, swelling of multiple joints is not. If the small joints (hands and feet) are involved it is virtually never going to be lyme disease.
