4th day taking clindamycin 300 mg 3x a day for exudative tonsillitis,  advised to take it for 7 days. barely see any improvements yet. when will it totally heal the pus pocket on my tonsil?

If correct meds: If the bacteria stimulating the inflammation of the tonsil and causing an exudate, it can take up to 10 days for a full effect.  If no change has occurred by now you should see the doctor and ask for a culture of the area to diagnose the actual cause, bacteria or virus and appropriate treatment can be performed once the actual cause is known

Viral tonsillitis?: A viral infection could take several days (and up to a couple of weeks) to resolve.

However - if you were told it was viral, and you are taking good care of yourself and the symptoms are still not getting better - you should return to an ENT physician to make sure that the infection was indeed viral.

2-3 days: If there is no improvement if 72 hours, you amy have a strain that is resistant to azithromycin.  Rates of resistance to z pack are at least 40% here in the new york area.  Let your doctor know if you still have severe pain or fever after 3-4 days.  Keepin mind that the vast amount of tonsil infections are viral and will clear on their own in 7-10 days.

Tonsillitis: This is highly variable and may depend on the frequency with which you have had this previously, the organism responsible, whether it is susceptible to the antibiotic prescribed, and other factors. If this has not become asymptomatic within a week go back and revisit the doctor. If only the patch remains, you could either ignore it or see an ENT doctor to determine if further management is needed.

Well - you won't : Cure a bacterial tonsillitis at home. Even it is a viral tonsillitis - you are treating the symptoms while you wait for the infection to resolve. For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician ; get a strep throat test ; culture. Antibiotics are imperative for strep throat.  Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/.

Tonsillitis : I've noticed it takes adults slightly longer to recover, even 7-10 days. Beyond that, i'd suspect that a non infectious cause may be present.

Not a cause: Tonsillitis typically is caused by viruses that cause the common cold, initially. Sometimes, the infection perists and then bacterial infection develops. Herpetic infections in the oral cavity don't typically affect the tonsils. The virus will cause painful vesicles on the lips, palate, oral mucosa, gums and on the skin around the mouth, typically. They can show up 1-26 days after exposure .

A few days, maybe...: Tonsillitis etc can be due to viruses & bacteria, but most commonly the former. In these situations, we'll get better w/time but nothing we take, including antibiotics, will make infection go away any faster.
