how long do i need to recover from telogen effluvium ? for me the trigger was viral fever its been 5 months and 24 days , i still am loosing my hairs with white bulb at the end when does the shedding stop completely?

: This condition may last 6 months, but some cases remain chronic. Consult a dermatologist who will check for other causes of hair loss such as scalp pathology, thyroid disease, genetic factors,etc. He/she can also reassure you if it's felt to be a temporary hair loss problem.

recently i had telogen effluvium now i am recovering its my 7th month,however i recently discovered i have 3 white hairs , which i previously never had as mine were very thick and black are those white hairs permanent or it ll go away by time passes?

: It is difficult to say-typically the hair loss associated with this condition goes away when the reason for the hair loss goes away. It can take 6-12 months for your hair to return to normal so having a couple of white hairs may be part of the recovery process. Only time will tell if the white hair is permanent. Yes, causes problems: Depakote clearly causes hair loss.  Generally, stops falling out within a couple of weeks.  If after 2 months still falling out then, you need to see a doctor.

: Telogen Effluvium is a condition where the scalp (and sometimes other areas) loses hair at an increased rate. This disorder typically occurs after a shock to the body (trauma, severe illness, surgery) and lasts about 6 months. Chronic Telogen effluvium (lasting longer than 6 months) can occur in patients with chronic disease such as Cancer or autoimmune disorders.

yaz made my hair fall out. is it likely that ortho tri cyclin lo or other strong anti-androgen birth control pills will do the same? i have hormonal acne, but just recovered from telogen effluvium. i don't want to lose my hair again.

You have it backward: Androgens cause androgenetic alopecia, not telogen effluvium. Antiandrogen or 5-alpha reductase inhibitor is used to remedy androgenetic alopecia. You need to see a dermatologist and define your problem. There are no "strong" antiandrogen birth control pills. Yaz is weak antiandrogen and orthotricyclen is neutral. You may benefit from spironolactone or dutasteride or both, with or without an OC.

Depends on you: In part this depends on how you got telogen effluvium. Cause shouldn't because they can be triggered by stress, crash dieting, physical trauma such as an automobile accident. surgery with a shock to the system. Certain medicines can also reduce it, you have to look at the long-haul and it comes back to normal over 6 to 9 months

Are they new?: If they weren't in the involved area before, and they are now, then they're likely new.  With telogen effluvium, the initial hair loss in the affected areas is generally complete.

Growing hairs?: With telogen effluvium, the spots you develop can be without hair for several months.  When the hairs start to grow again, they will of course be very short, but they will regrow to normal length eventually.  This growth can take many months however, so patience is needed.  Hair grows very slowly, unfortunately.

: Telogen effluvium rarely lasts longer than six months, although some cases last longer.
If hair loss persists without new hair growth, you may have a condition called alopecia areata or totalist. 
You need to see your doctor for a complete exam along with blood tests.
