Probably unlikely: Recurrent herpes urethritis can happen but is uncommon. The chance might be slightly higher if your initial herpes infection involved your urethra (usually quite painful), but even then it would be uncommon.

Typically : Typically the first outbreak of herpes is the worst, and subsequent outbreaks are lesser intensity or painless shedding of virus.  A person might, as you say, never have an outbreak again.  I see women who don't even know they have herpes because they've never had an outbreak.  Safe sex practices are the best to make sure that you don't spread herpes.  If you do have an outbreak, take acyclovir.

Could be: You really need a physical exam by your dr. / or gyn dr. To adeqautely diagnose wether or not you are having a herpes outbreak.  It is almost impossible to diagnose that over the computer. Good luck.

This : This is a very delicate subject. First of all you have to forgive yourself and move on. If you were unaware that your ex-fiance had genital herpes, it is not your fault that you contracted the virus. Your boyfriend obviously loves you and wants to be with you, you should stop feeling "horrible". Many people with hsv seek out partners that also have it so they can engage in a normal sexual relationship without fear of spreading the virus. The odds of you or your boyfriend developing oral lesions from oral sex is fairly low if you do not engage in oral sex while either one of you have an active lesion; also you should wait a week or two after a lesion has resolved before resuming oral sex, lastly if you are both on suppresion therapy (taking medication daily) this can reduce the transmission rate.
Do not let this ruin your relationship and your sex life.

Genital herpes: As you're likely aware, people with genital HSV may be shedding infectious virus and not be aware of it. How often this happens varies. In general, yes, active lesions have lots of virus and are infectious; viral shedding may lessen over time and is less when on antiviral meds. However, this might differ for various reasons. Using condoms consistently &amp; antiviral meds reduce HSV transmission risk.

Genital herpes: New herpes symptoms usually start 3-5 days after exposure, on rare occasions up to 2-3 weeks. It is very common for the first recognized herpes outbreak to actually be a recurrent outbreak of a longstanding infeciton that previously caused no symptoms. Make sure the virus is typed: it is very important to know whether HSV1 or 2. Genital HSV2 recurs often, HSV1 outbreaks usually uncommon.

Herpes simplex: This is very variable, but the longest limits are up to three weeks.  This would be very unusual and would start looking for another cause for fever if it lasted more than a week.

Genital herpes: Of course herpes is very contagious to you as his partner.   I do not think your sarcoidosis is of any concern in this issue.

Yes it can: Herpes can be one bump or many. Typically a herpes lesion has pain sensation associated with it.  It can have a capsule like lid with fluid inside, but it also may not.  If your lump feels solid, like raised skin, it likely isn't herpes.  You can get a culture of the lesion and/or a blood test from your doctor.   See a health care provider and hopefully they'll put your mind at ease.
