Strep test: Some people will have referred pain to their ears with strep throat.  The only way to positively diagnose strep throat is with a strep test and/or a culture.

Acute HIV infection: HIV-1 infection can occur with unprotected sex or injection drug use. 2 - 4 weeks after an exposure, a patient may develop a flu or mono-like illness called acute HIV infection. These symptoms may include fever, lymphadenopathy, pharyngitis, rash, myalgia, malaise, &amp;/or mouth sores. Other symptoms might include N/V, thrush, headache or neurologic symptoms. Duration is 1 to a few weeks. Get checked

Second opinion: Not sure without the benefit of examining you. Enlarged lymph nodes throughout the body coil indicate a problem. If you are concerned i would encourage you to obtain a second opinion.

Exudate: and lymph node enlargement is suggestive of an infectious process, likely viral. A throat culture could help you sort this out.   Access is also a remote possibility, and would require immediate evaluation!

Lymph nodes can: be an annoyance or a sign of real disease.  If it does not bother you with pain or obstruction or such, just watch it hopefully start getting smaller over the next few weeks. Probably: The abscesses over the lymph nodes is a sign of mrsa. Get cultures and antibiotics. Check your gammaglobulins.

See ENT: if after all this time the sore throat has not resolved it would be prudent to see a ear nose and throat specialist. A common etiology of prolonged sore throat include gastroesophageal reflux disease. In the meantime, you might try sleeping with the head of youyour head of bed elevated. Also reducing intake of tomato-based products, citrus and spicy foods, caffeine and alcohol.

Yes.: Bacterial infections, including strep can cause enlarged lymph nodes that are near the site of infection.  If that is the cause, if the infection is successfully treated the nodes should shrink back down.  Persistently enlarged nodes, or nodes that continue to enlarge need evaluation.

The : The thought of lymphoma is scary. The best thing to do now is wait for the biopsy results. That will give hopefully give you a definitive answer. The biopsy sounds like it is the best next step for making a diagnosis and finding out why those lymph nodes are enlarged.You have done a good job noticing that the nodes have enlarged and multiplied and gotten your son to a specialist for further evaluation. I know you're worried after your reading but hang in there until you know if you have something to truly worry about or not. If it is lymphoma then you and your physicians will come up with a treatment plan to deal with it. Speculating right now on what it may or may not be isn't helpful since you will have an answer with the biospy. Waiting is difficult. Stay hopeful. As mother's we are suppose to worry. That is how we protect our children. I hope you get good news from the biopsy and relief. Your thoughts of lymphoma are only that right now, thoughts.

May be: It may or may not. The procedure of choice is ultrasound by an eperienced sonographer. Xr is not a great exam for lymph nodes. Even better: have it examined by a doc. Usually this is palpable on physical examination and most examinations are not helpful.
