Strep throat : What do you mean exactly?   Did you take an antibiotic specifically prescribed to treat your strep?    Not all antibiotics work well against strep.

Strep infections: Strep throat can go away without treatment, but the repercussions can be serious like rheumatic fever glomerulonephritis or chorea.

Strep Throat: strep throat is rarely resistant to antibiotics. In case of resistant, high dose amoxil or augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) based on 90mg/kg/day can help to over come the resistant strain

Keflex: First, be sure you are really (or still) allergic to penicillin.  Second, make sure you really have strep throat (some people have strep in their throat all the time!).  Then your doctor can choose from several different cephalosporins.  The cheapest one is the generic form of keflex.  Zithromax is a distant third choice because rarely the bacteria are resistant.

Yes: Taking ? Amoxicillin twice daily is the recommended interval, based on its metabolism. Taking it three times a day will not hurt but is not necessary. All the best.

: No problem. A few doses taken a few hours early or late will make no difference, as long as you take the entire prescription.

Not sure.: Unlikely that he has infection. Much more likely that he has irritation which should get better with time. However, although not mentioned specifically i assume he is taking ant rejection meds for his kidney.  In that case should watch carefully for further signs that things are not going well.

i took antibiotic for strep throat which didn't work. doctor switched me to clarithromycin yesterday. today i have one hive. should i be worried?

Prob not: One red, itchy, raised spot (hive) is not usually a sign of a systemic alleric reaction.  If you are having an allergic reaction, you will know it shortly, the one hive will become many.  If that happens, stop the antibiotic, take a benadryl, (diphenhydramine) and call your doc or head to the er.

taking antiobiotics for strep throat every 12 hours. i accidently left them at work and won't be able to get them until tomorrow. complications?!

Possibly: If you skip one or more doses, the antibiotic may not be as effective and the bacteria may become resistant.  Best thing to do is to call your Dr.'s answering service and when the on call Dr. calls back, ask if they can call in one dose for you to take tonight. Then take your morning dose as soon as you get to work tomorrow AM.  Good luck!
