Several months: After starting warfarin the blood clot can no longer grow. The body will start to break down the clot within days. It takes months to have the clot reabsorbed or for the process to make an opening through the clot so blood can get through again. Swelling will be visibly less in a few weeks but it could be 6 months before the leg is back to normal. Occasionally, the swelling persists indefinitely.

Varies: It can go down in a matter of days to weeks or months or never.  There is a condition call "post phlebiits syndrome" and the leg can be swollen for prolonged periods of time.  I have patients with swelling for years after one or more clots in the veins of the legs.

Yes: Hot weather results in vasodilation of veins, and one can see more swelling.  Check your compression hose which often lasts about 3-4 months, and if they are easy to put on, it's probably time to get new ones.

i have leiden's factor v. i had a dvt in my thigh two monthsago. i take 8mg coumadin (warfarin) daily and adjust it per my pt. cani use treadmill for 1 hour per day, pretty fast?

Check with Dr.: The answer depends on the size and location of the blood clot and the chances of it breaking off and traveling to the lung. Swimming and walking are safer alternatives until the clot in your leg completely dissolve and anchors to the wall of the vein. Check with your doctor.

The fact: That you are on both drugs suggests this is a new diagnosis. The swelling improves in weeks.  In severe DVT the valves in the veins can be permanently damaged and this leads to some degree of swelling which is permanent.

Irregular ovulation: Possible polycystic ovaries (PCO), not releasing an egg on schedule.  Hormone irregularities from  PCO, may raise some levels of estrogen, possibly increasing your risk for recurrent DVT.  Discuss this with your doctor to be sure.

Subtherapeutic: Talk to your doc about a diet as well as other anticoagulant options. Also understanding goals and length of treatment will be critical from your doc.

Yes: As your INR is not therapeutic. Get checked for a DVT

A number of things: Increased arterial flow, venous congestion, and possible early post thrombotic syndrome.  If you aren't wearing graduated compression stockings (30-40 mm hg, knee high), you should be.  Studies have shown that you need to wear them for two years after your clot.
