Varies a lot...: Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs and varies from slight to deadly serious. So, people who are able to heal themselves of a slight pneumonia are probably able to walk around the whole time they have it. On the other end of the spectrum are the less fortunate ones who get sick, become bedridden, and never get up again. There are many germs that can cause pneumonia, too.

See below: If you have pneumonia and I assume are on antibiotics , it is probably safer to postpone long walks until you are totally well -since pneumonia affects your lungs, walking might be difficult - I would check with your doctor before you get back into your regular exercise routine

Low oxygen?: One possibility is having low oxygen. A disease such as pneumonia fills the alveoli with infectious/inflammatory debris which prevents gas exchange. Maintaining an appropriate oxygen level in the blood becomes more difficult, especially with exertion. A bacterial infection also causes lots of inflammatory cytokines which can also make you feel unwell.

Not good....: This seems to represent a fairly rapid progression of the disease.  A neurologist or a geriatrics doctor can help you narrow down more specific expectations.  As to how much longer is his life expectancy.... All will be guesses.

yesterday got sent home saying my metatarsals was no longer broken. still feels weak and unable to walk properly?

Not done healing yet: It may no longer be broken, but it far from done healing.  Your body will continue to lay down bone in that area for quite a while before if switches gears and begins the remodeling process.  Be patient, take otc analgesics as needed and increase your activities to your own tolerance.
