15 days ago, i started having stomach cramps/nausea that got worse. i went to the ed and they did a ct/c and said i might have colitis. for the past 3 days i am having upper gi cramps, nausea, gerd, and bloating. could an infection last this long?

: Colitis could be due to an infection called diverticulitis, but usually that would show up on CT scan. Most likely you have inflammatory bowel disease, i.e. Crohn's disease of the colon or ulcerative colitis. You need to see a gastroenterologist; either find one directly or ask your primary care provider for a referral. Good luck.

i have been experiencing severe gas in upper gi track ,belching ,for last ten years, visited many doctors but no confirmed diagnosis. one doc said i have celiac, or depression. endoscopy showed acute to choronic duodenitis. any suggestions?

They have lots of info there and two serial publications: eid (emerging infectious diseases) and mmwr (morbidity mortality weekly report) - both are free. Make sure: Young female has had 3 recent UTI's &amp; queries cause. Firstly, these episodes need to be documented by urine cultures. Symptoms &amp; a "dip stick" test are unreliable for diagnostic purposes. Some doctor unfortunately diagnose based just on symptoms, which can also be found with Interstitial Cystitis; which is common in fibromyalgia sufferers.

Water: The best prevention for uti's are increasing your water intake and possibly cranberry pills or cranberry jiuce. In uncomplicated cases, these have been shown to minimze the symptoms and even help treat these "infections". If these fail, then antibiotics will be neccessary. It is also beneficial to void every 4 to 6 hours and not hold the urine for excessive amounts of time.

Depends: It's a tricky one. Although, anything is possible, there is a good chance that the "second" one is just the undertreated first. Often, empiric treatment prescribed for UTI may temporarily suppress the infection but not cure it. Occasionally a UTI may be caused by two or multiple bacteria and if treated without obtaining urine culture, may result in only partial improvement but eventual recurrence.
