how many days before a colonoscopy should i stop drinking alcohol? should i stop just during the bowel prep and the day of the procedure?

Am concerned about: anybody who asks about whether they can or cannot drink with some procedure or with drug X, because that is a red flag that drinking alcohol is too important in your life, and that you may have a problem. You have 3 conditions that are worsened (and even caused) by alcohol, erectile dysfunction, a muscle disease and PTSD.  Alcohol is especially bad with PTSD, and makes it hard to treat. Talk to MD

Keep drinking: Finish all liquid, and you will probably be ok. As long as the liquid is watery and without solids you should be ok.

Ask your doctor: You certainly need to avoid it after midnight the night before the procedure, since you will likely have sedation with these tests, but the final arbiter on how long you should be without alcohol before the test is the gastroenterologist who is going to perform the tests. It should be in the instructions you get before the procedure, and if it isn't, you should ask. Good luck.

Absolutely not!: Finish your colon prep, as per provided instructions. If the prep is inadequate, your colonoscopy will be too, and you'll be invited back with a bigger prep to try again.

Stop right now pls: Aloe is commonly recommended for worm infestation, stomach disorders, colic, constipation, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, menstrual complaints, skin disorders. However, aloe is contraindicated in cases of intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, appendicitis, &amp; unexplained abdominal pain. Always weigh all pros and cons of any product (prescription or herbal) before ingestion please.

Define clear liquids: "Clear liquids" are any food that is not solid at room or body temperature that will allow sunlight to pass through: ice pops, jello, broth or juices without particulates, soda, water, light tea. Avoid red-dyed foods that may leave residue that looks like blood to the colonoscopist. Confirm your selection with the performing doctor--you don't want to have to re-do the test due to a bad prep.

Water and salts: Generally most colon preps are made of water and a mix of salts to both replace those expected to be washed out by the prep, but also to make it "neutral", so your body chemistry will not change much with the large volumes of fluid ingested. Substances to change the taste are also generally used too, although most peolpe still say it tastes terrible :(.
