No: Women with breast implants are encouraged to breast feed just as any other woman and most do so without a problem.  Some women may experience difficulty with breast feeding for various other reasons.  Although typically breast gland function is minimally affected by implant surgery, there can occasionally be scarring which may lead to added difficulty with breast feeding.

Yes: Although a potential problem with any type of breast surgery is an interference with the ability to breast-feed, the majority of patients who undergo breast augmentation surgery are able to breast-feed successfully.

Accepted Answer

Yes.: Cosmetic implant placement should not impact the ability to breastfeed.  The implants should be placed behind the chest wall (pectoralis) muscle for screening purposes to avoid trapping any glandular tissue behind the implant where it can't be felt or imaged with mammography.  Typical incisions for cosmetic implants (inframammary, axillary) are away from the nipple complex.

Often/not always : Some women with breast implants do breastfeed successfully.  The issue is that when the surgeon does the implant, he/she cuts into the breast tissue, which cuts through some of the milk producing and milk ejecting areas.  Depending on how the surgery was done, and how much nipple disruption there was, a mom may or may not be successful.  It certainly doesn't hurt to try, but tell your doctor.

Yes: That is certainly possible - I have had several patients who've done that, if they couldn't decide on a new, smaller set of implants at the time of the lift.
