Prefer mini pad: Most MD's prefer a mini pad as it will get changed regularly and reduces the risk of infection from a retained tampon post abortion. It will "ALWAYS" catch what is necessary.

Mini pad works!: After an abortion the cervix is now wide open and very susceptible to infection from items placed in the vagina. A tampon will remain in place for a few hours and can serve as a nidus and conduit of continuing infection. A mini pad is your best option.

Abortion/tampons: Generally noting should be placed in the vagina for up to a week following an abortion.   If you are still bleeding - use pads.   After about a week you should be safe to use tampons - just change them frequently and if you start to notice an odor or run a fever call your doctor immediately.
