Talk with your doc: This is highly variable, depends upon how many previous childbirths (if any) and how far away you are from the hospital and many other factors like how far along you are.  Prepare ahead of time and discuss this with your doc or midwife early in pregnancy.

Active vs. prodromal: Early labor(prodromal) usually has contractions that are widely spaced 10 to 30 minutes apart. Active progressive labor will shorten that interval to 2 to 3 minutes apart continuously to effectively dilate the cervix.

Yes: Contractions occur often but become more frequent and closer together -and usually stronger- as pregnancy nears delivery.

Generally : Generally you would wait until the contractions are fairly  regular and close to five  minutes.  Look for less variation in time.

Maybe: You could be in early labor or you could be having Braxton-Hicks contractions. Either way, you should give your doctor a call and let them know how frequent your contractions are coming.

Early contractions: You don't really want to have contractions or labor at 30 weeks, but the uterus often starts toning up for the soon to happen labor and you can feel contractions (often called braxton hicks contractions). You also don't want your cervix to open. Mild temporary spotting is common; continued bleeding should be checked. If any symptoms continue that worry you, get checked.

Possible: It is possible but nothing to worry about.  Time your contractions.  If you feel they are becoming stronger and more frequent, then contact your ob. If you are ever unsure about something it is always best to get in touch with your ob.  Good luck!

A long time: Assuming you are at least 37 weeks pregnant and less than 41 weeks, this is latent labor (your body getting ready for real labor) and can last many days or even a week or two.  Be sure to keep your appointments!  if you are earlier or later than the weeks listed, call your doctor today.
