Effective: It should be just as effective, birth control wise.  Its contains the same type of estrogen and progestin as ortho tri-cyclen, just made by another manufacturer.  Hope this helps.

2 weeks: You should use backup contraception ( condoms and spermicide) for the first two weeks when starting birth control pills. Remember, though, at the pill protects against pregnancy, but not against STDs. Contunued use of condoms will reduce the risk of STDs.

Birth control: tri cyclen lo is a lower dose pill that came out after ortho tri cycle.  In addition to providing birth control, it also helps reduce mild cystic acne in patients and provides menstrual cycle control

Any Sunday: If you are not having periods, you can start it on any sunday, 
make sure you are not pregnant. The urine pregnancy tests you can buy over the counter are pretty accurate.

Little difference: There is very little difference between then other than the synthetic type of progestogen agent contained therein. They both suppress the pituitary and therefore ovulation.

Protection: For the acne, you can just finish the pack. For pregnancy protection, whether you finish the pack or start a new pack, you should use another method of contraception, such as condom, for another cycle.

Some women: May gain weight with ocg's, but it is impossible to predict whom. It varies from woman to woman and from one pill to another. In any event, you still need to eat the calories to gain the weight, so dietary control is (as always) of utmost importance. Check w/your doctor.

was on loestrin fe 1/20 for a year (2 day periods), switched to ortho tri-cyclen lo. got heavy 8 day period first month. normal because more estrogen?

Monitor for 3 months: If the problem continues, switch back to the Loestrin Fe1/20. Not sure why would switch if it was working well for you
