Antihistamines help: Claritin (loratadine) +/- d, zyrtec +/- d, or Allegra +/- d can help with allergy and asthma symptoms caused by allergies to respiratory pollens or other airborne allergens. One should work with his doctor to see which combination of over-the-counter allergy meds and prescription asthma inhalers/pills work the best. A patient will learn over time, what medicines to adjust, depending on how "bad" the air is.

Yes: Singulair (montelukast) and Claritin work by different mechanisms.  The combination of both works better than either alone for allergy control and the singulair (montelukast) may help your asthma as well.

i take claritin & sudafed daily to help w/allergies & asthma, but allergies &/or head cold are very bad now. what else can i add? benadryl (diphenhydramine)?

at this time, in most parts of usa, changes in temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure affects the changes in the blood vessels and glands of the nasal passage, causing rhinal blockage and pressure changes in the sinus cavities. This is the low allergy season for pollen and molds. Dryness can be reduced by use of humidifiers as well as lowering the temperature of the room.

No problem: but do realize that the D in Claritin may raise your blood pressure and may not be good as a long-term medication.  Nasal steroid is usually more effective and safer in the long run.

i accidently broke my claritin d allergy pill in half. i've read you're not suppose do that adlnd now i'm afraid . will i be alright?

Accepted Answer

Delayed release: Some delayed  release medications  can release too much medication if you break them. Claritin usually is 12 or 24 hours. If you are past that window you should be fine. If not you may experience some discomfort anxiety or nausea but should have no serious damage.

Symptoms: If you have congestion or runny nose, nasal saline spray and avoiding common allergens is recommended.
A topical nasal steroid may provide relief for nasal symptoms.  Continue antihistamine and contact OB.

can i consume alcohol while taking claritin d?

A.m.: Because most of the decongestant is released during the day, you may have insomnia if you take it at night- even then the lingering effect of the decongestant may still disrupt your sleep.  Yes there is no problem with alcohol in moderation.

i take prozac 20mg and wellbutrin (bupropion) xr 150mg once a day. is it safe to take claritin-d for my allergies while on these meds?

Yes: Taking claritin-d together with Prozac and wellbutrin (bupropion) xl should not be a problem. Take the claritin-d in the morning so the " d " won't affect your sleep

i woke up at 6:30am & my allergies were horrible so i took allegra d & fell back to sleep. i woke up about 2-3 hours later & my allergies were still horrible. the allegra didnt work at all. is it ok that i took a claritin d?

: The medication sometimes is to help along with doing other things like washing your beddings more frequently especially if you notice that the symptoms are worse early in the morning. You may want to choose which of the medications work best for you because the combined side effect may not be what you want seeing the time interval is very short.
