after drinking cold beverage such as water, my heart rate immediately slows down a few beats (3-4) and beats hard then back to normal rhythm. what could this be? its very frightening.

Vagus nerve: The vagus nerve, when stimulated,causes temporary slowing if the heart rate. Apparently drinking ice cold liquids causes this reaction in your case. My suggestion is to drink cold beverages very slowly. You could wear an outpatient heart monitor which would document such a reaction.

See doctor: It is true that you can have reflux without having heartburn but that does not explain the fast heart rate. If you are having heart rates over 100 then that is not normal and you need to see a doctor for evaluation. Normal heart rate is 60-100 beats per minute.
