3-12 hours: Blood levels peak 3-12 hours after ingesting tablets but it may take 3 - 5 weeks to reach a consistent level since the drug induces its own metabolism (autoinduction).  The dosage may have to be slowly increased to reach the appropriate blood level.   I notice you describe pain - if taking tegretol for that reason it may take 4-6 weeks before you notice an improvement.

my brother has fits for last12 yrs  he is on diva-d750 twice and  tegretol twice   and  firisium onc for last 6 months  can he drive n work  normally.

Probably not: Driving is a significant risk for him and others if his seizures are uncontrolled.  Typically, patients with active  epilepsy are advised to avoid driving, operating power equipment, doing activities at heights, and swimming or taking baths alone.

No effect: Tegretol does not effect the Klonopin (clonazepam). Your dose is probably too low.

It should not: If taking Amoxicillin at appropriate dosages, it should not affect tegretol levels. Taking too much penicillin based medication however, is known to cause seizures.

Before you start: stopping your medications, especially for seizure, you must contact your doctor and discuss this with her/him. You want to maintain therapeutic blood levels of your tegretol, and this may have kept you seizure free. In any case, if you want to stop or reduce it, be under careful medical guidance for safety.

Lamictal has less : Lamictal has no noted interactions with lithium, however it has to be titrated slow due to possible severe rash.  Tegretol is likely safe too but it will need to be increase slowly due to possible of neurotoxicity in combination with lithium. Start low and go slow. As for which works better, it is hard to say, everyone is different.

my husband and i had intercourse last night without protection. i'm not on contraceptives because of i'm on carbamazepine for epilepsy. we do not want another baby just yet. can i take morning after pill and will it work? which one will be best?

Double the dose: Carbamazepine causes the hormones in hormonal contraceptives to be broken down more quickly. Plan B, Take Action, My Way, AfterPill, Ella are emergency contraceptives that uses high doses of hormones to prevent implantation of the fertilized embryo in the uterus. You will need to take double the dose while taking Carbamazepine. Side effects: irregular bleeding, nausea, breast tenderness.

An old drug: Tegretol has been on the market for many years.  It was one of the first antiseizure medications and is still prescribed pretty frequently.  It is not without a slight risk for problems, however.  Your doctor checks blood counts looking for signs of anemia or bone marrow problems, liver function tests to make sure the liver isn't affected, and a tegretol level to see how much is in your system.
