Question?: The question is unclear. Do you mean that thyroid pill helped or triggered your angioedema and hives?  If you take thyroid replacement, the thyroid would reduce or stop producing thyroid hormone.

Try another med: Some patients just don't respond well to basic thyroid replacement (like levothyroxine).  Consider using an alternative like Armour Thyroid or tirosint.  If your physician is uncomfortable with this, consider seeing an endocrinologist.

Need right dose!: Right medicine, wrong dose doesn't help, regardless of condition. Of course, wrong medicine, regardless of dose, is bad. So how do we find right dose for thyroid medicine? Check your tsh. Many docs now recommend aiming for 1-2, not just 4.49 (if "normal" range is 0.45-4.5). However, recent study suggests that a few patients may respond better to desiccated thyroid. See below: A balanced diet is still the best way to gain weight, together with increasing muscle tone. Additional protein during exercise can help this. Don't forget to drink fluids. Medication used for wt gain are usually just used for people who have very poor appetite like pts going thru chemo. Good luck.

Depends on dose: If you accidentally take a few doses of thyroid hormone, nothing is likely to happen.  If you take high doses for a prolonged time you will become hyperthyroid.

Depends: on the medication, and the reason it was prescribed.  Meds like levothyroxine (for hypothyroid) are usually tested 1 month after starting, or changing dose to check hormone levels.  Most patients will gradually feel effect before that time.

Being sick: If you don't want to take the medication, you can always be sick, feel badly and possibly die early. It's always your choice with any disease. Doctors only advise, they don't force you to be intelligent or healthy.
