if i have hpv does my male partner have hpv? and how will it clear up in 2 years if my partner has hpv too? wont i get the hpv back?

Yes - it will - no: If you have hpv, your partner has been exposed and likely infected.  80% of hpv infections are cleared in the first year by the immune system, and 90% by three years.  Once you have had and cleared any virus (including hpv), your immune system prevents reinfection - so you will not get the same virus again.

Accepted Answer

Not usually done: If the male has genital warts, then they can be biopsied, but this is rarely necessary. I don't know of any commercial testing available for men as far as testing the penis. I believe anal warts can be tested  in a similar way that we test a cervix (thin prep pap with hpv testing).

i can't remember if i had the hpv vaccinate before but i'm scheduled to have it this week. what happens if i get vaccinated twice? i'm 23 male.

Can't you find out?: The best idea would be to remember where you think you may have gotten the vaccine, and call there to see if it can be confirmed.  You may remember that HPV vaccine is a series of 3 shots: get #1, then #2 after 1-2 months, #3 6 months after #1. It would be ok to just "start over" the entire series if you really can't find out if you have had one or more before. Good for you for getting vaccinated!

No: It is possible to have sexual intercourse with someone who has hpv without acquiring an infection; however, the risk of acquiring hpv is higher without condoms than with condoms.  Always using the combination of condoms and a spermicidal lubricant will greatly decrease the risk of becoming infected with hpv and other sexually transmitted diseases.  Condoms will also help prevent pregnancies.

Interesting choice: There is value to anyone when a vaccine can help prevent a medical condition. HPV is transmitted sexually by both genders in both gay and straight relationships. At your age, most insurers would not cover the shot series, and it does have a significant price tag. A blood test may indicate you are also positive  as this germ can be carried for decades with no symptoms. Discuss with your doc.

Not too late: A person can discuss with his doctor about his level of risk and whether or not the vaccine would make good sense to get. Usually, if a person is having new contacts (HPV is usually caught via physical contact of the genitals or the mouth), the vaccine is a good idea. Above age 26 years, insurance companies in the US might not pay for it (vaccine becomes a self-pay item).

Insurance contract: A person may benefit from this vaccine at any age.However, the series is expensive (raw cost running ~$200/dose x 3) and most insurance contracts are written with language that only covers vaccines for their fda approved age range. That range reflects expensive research data on test groups. You can pay out of pocket, but insurers only cover the target age group.

That ship sailed: The target age for vaccine use is 9-26, with heavy emphasis on administration before sexual activity starts.It provides no treatment for or protection against strains of the germ you already have.Of the dozen or so cancer related strains, 7 are in the latest vaccine. If you are considering paying out of pocket it is pricy. At more than $200/dose physician cost X 3 doses.
