A 43-year-old female asked:

I am a 43 y/o lesbian who had very few sex partners (never with males). should i get gardasil? i'm considering a relationship with an hpv + woman

Interesting choice: There is value to anyone when a vaccine can help prevent a medical condition. HPV is transmitted sexually by both genders in both gay and straight relationships. At your age, most insurers would not cover the shot series, and it does have a significant price tag. A blood test may indicate you are also positive as this germ can be carried for decades with no symptoms. Discuss with your doc.

You should be safe: Gardisil should protect you. Exposure of swim suit to water, if someone used it to swim, will also kill the virus.
