TMD: This is due to grinding or bruxism at night..... Large % of the population suffers from tmd causes could be anything from stress, malocclusion, obstructive sleep apnea, closed envelope of function... Sere a general dentist to check for all of the above.

Bruxism: It is possible that the cheek and tongue are getting caught too. This can also happen in case of petit mal seizure that aggravates a TMJ problem. See your dentist to check for lesions, facets on teeth, and torus...So he can come up with a proper diagnosis. If the problem is not due to parafunctional habit, you maybe referred to either an oral surgeon or eent based on the findings.

Seizure?: Without actually examining your tongue it is difficult to say exactly the source but the most worrisome cause would be potential nocturnal seizures.  The least worrisome would be scalloping of the sides of the tongue where it appears there are indentations of the back sides of the teeth indicating a large tongue.

around 4 weeks ago i broke up with my boyfriend.  i was quite anxious - not eating or sleeping well and i started biting my bottom lip - not hard - just holding it with my top teeth.  i now have a blister (not a cold sore) that wont heal?

Mouth biting : This is a lot easer said then done.
I find that most of the time it's done at night in rem sleep and can not be stopped.Bi have had some success with a night guard.  If  its occurring during day you must try to stop the habit.

Bad habit: Whether it is cheek and/or lip biting (like you) or nail biting, hair twirling, or any other habit, people often do these things initially to relieve stress. After a while they can "take a life of their own" and become a habit.  Bad habits are hard to break and some people find professional counseling helpful in developing strategies to break a habit.
