Sun screen: There are many causes of dark spots, exposure to sun and ultraviolet light is a common cause.  Try using sun screen for about six weeks to see if there is improvement.  You may wish to use sun screen even indoors in artificial light.  If that does not help, consulting a dermatologist would be a good idea.

It is possible: Any topical medicine that is supposed to fade brown spots will work slowly. The 30 spf is to reduce the chances of sun exposure making them darker (and to protect you from skin cancer). If these spots are from acne then you should see a dermatologist to address this.

Can do all: Acne can leave dark spots. If there is no true scarring then the skin will return to normal. You need to be on acne treatment that will prevent flares. See your dermatologist.
