Oral medicine: Tinea capitis is the name of the most common fungal infection that children get on the scalp.  A common way to get it is by close contact with another person, and especially sharing hairbrushes, barettes, hair rollers, hats, etc.  There is also a form that is transmitted by pets (cats and dogs.)  it is treated by taking an oral prescription medicine (pills or liquid) for up to 6-12 weeks.

Surgery=last resort: In most cases of any health condition, surgery is a last resort. First line treatment is always prevention. Next is palliative measures (change diet, cleanse wounds, rest/ice/compress/elevate injuries). Drug intervention is next. Surgery is last because of the inherent risks of complications afterward. You need to follow those steps to assure least number of complications.

Really need to see: it is not common to get tinea facei all over the face. You may have seborrheic dermatitis or facial dandruff, or rosacea. see dermatologist for answers and treatment

"Jock Itch" : Or tinea cruris. If you are certain this is what you have you can purchase an over-the-counter topical antifungal medicine & use as directed. Concurrent treatment of athletes foot (tinea pedis) & nail fungus infection (onychomycosis) is recommended to help prevent recurrence. Daily application of talcum, keeping the area, dry & avoidance of hot baths & tight-fitting clothing can prevent recurrence.

Diabetes control: The main thing usually is to get the diabetes under excellent control. Most fungal infections will clear on their own if blood sugar is normal. Beyond that, it depends on the kind of fungus and where the infection is located. For example, vaginal fungal infections are very different and require different treatment than skin, mouth, or internal infections. Check with your doctor.

Antifungal creams: It could be jock itch. Most "jock-itch" is a superficial fungal infection of the skin in the groin area. If this is the case, many athlete's foot remedies will work here as well.  The ones to try first are lotrimin ultra or Lamisil (terbinafine) cream.  If it is because of yeast infection, use Nystatin cream.

Medication: There are over the counter medications in the drug store to relieve itch. Some of these are hydrocortisone, caladryl, and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) Cool compresses and oat meal baths also help to decrease skin itching.
