HFM: People with HFM are most contagious within the first week of illness.  However, they can continue to be contagious for days to even weeks after symptoms resolve. Utilizing scrupulous hand washing and other hygiene interventions to prevent spread to minimize chance of viral spread.

Contagious????: You can't "catch" drug abuse or addiction.  However, there is an old saying that "if you lie down with dogs, you rise up with fleas."  if you are around people who are actively using drugs, this has a social influence on you, and may increase the likelihood of your ultimately using that drug.  People who go to bars see people drinking, and they are more likely to drink.

Yes: There are several human herpes viruses. All cause initial infection, then lie dormant and may recur later. When dormant, some are not contagious, like varicella zoster virus (causes chickenpox and shingles) or Epstein Barr virus (mononucleosis). Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, which cause oral and genital herpes, often are contagious even when dormant, but only by close or intimate contact.

Less contagious: Once a fever has 'broken' that's a really good sign you're on your way to recovery. However, depending on exactly what type of infection you have - it's hard to say with certainty.  Certainly you're on the mend, but for some diseases like the flu - I just don't trust them. Especially if there are vulnerable people about (aging grandparents, toddlers etc). Best to double check with your doc.

: BY CDC: People infected with RSV are usually contagious for 3 to 8 days.
Adults with weakened immune systems, can continue to spread the virus even after they stop showing symptoms, for as long as 4 weeks

Bed Bugs: The bite left by a bed bug is not contagious. However, should the bite become secondarily infected, skin to skin contact with another person could potentially pass on the infection. Application of an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment should help prevent infection. Doing whatever is necessary to exterminate the bed bugs would help us all sleep easier.

Typically fecal-oral: Simplistic, but a good rule of thumb: Most enteric infections (whether bacterial, viral, parasitic) are acquired by ingesting the infecting agent. Air borne infection usually causes respiratory problems.
