Eat thoughtfully: On or off paxil, (paroxetine) you will lose weight if you eat fewer calories than you need. Unfortunately, it takes longer to lose weight than to gain it. If you eat too little, your body goes into conservation mode, and you won't lose weight. So, eat frequent small balanced low calorie meals. And be consistent and patient! your doctor can give you individual guidance. Weight watchers is helpful to many.

Try higher dose.: You should report the med response to the doctor who prescribed the med. Prozac can be raised to 80 mg/day. You can take this dose for 1-2 months. If you don't notice an improvement in your mood, then talk to him or her about switching back to Paxil.

Yes: Most of the medications in this class (ssri's) have a known side effect of weight gain.  Please discuss this with your prescribing doctor.  It is often more important to treat depression or other issues than to worry about weight gain.  If weight gain is a major concern, it needs to be discussed and see what options are open to you.

However, many patients on  Paxil (paroxetine) commonly have weight gain as a direct effect of the medications actions on histamine receptors.

Bupropion wt gain?: Bupropion is an antidepressant not likely to cause weight gain vs. SSRI's (eg. Prozac and Paxil). That said, weight gain is reported as an uncommon side effect of bupropion.  If weight gain continues on Prozac, would consider Effexor. Discuss with prescribing doctor. Meantime, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly and keep track of your weight. I hope this helps.
