Probably not: Some amount of mucus is normal in stools but significant amount with pain , diarrhoea or blood would indicate inflammation or infection in intestine. These symptoms could be caused by  parasite in intestine, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease , ulcerative colitis and sometimes by cancer too . Consult your doctor to confirm the diagnosis.

i sometimes get clay colored/pale stools (solid). no other symptoms. i did eat new food (lentils) this week. typically my stool is brown, but occasionally is lighter. i've had recent blood panels & all is normal. can new foods have this effect?

Depends on details: A primary care doctor can check to see why some stools are very light colored. He'll want to know the circumstances around the light colored stools, such as whether or not it is related to rapid transit of poop through the bowels, or related to certain foods. Keeping a diary of symptoms will help. If worried about the liver and gall bladder, the doctor may order an ultrasound scan and blood tests.

: If you have significant discomfort with bowel movement, only liquid coming out, you may have fecal impaction. You may need to go to urgent care or ER for manual disimpaction.

Increase fiber: The best thing would be to increase your daily fiber intake. Try using metamucil, benefiber, fibercon on a daily basis to firm up your stools. If you continues to have issues, you should see your family practice physician.

Babies specially new -born are going to have stools like that ,rarely solid and may not be yellowish..

What's the cause?: Plugging up diarrhea/underformed stool will not cure infection, fix an inflammatory process, improve malabsorption, or correct a functional issue. Medical evaluation recommended appropriate to the duration of your symptoms, associations (bleeding, weight loss, pain, vomiting), as well as your other medical co-morbidities. Call UR doctor pls &amp; get checked, especially if not correctable with diet.
