why do i get very hot when my pottassium  gets low? burning up hot, leg feel hot but when you touch them they don;t. like the heat is coming from inside out.

It : It is interesting that you are that perceptive of your potassium being low; most patients are not.  Classic symptoms of low potassium are weakness, cramping, or nausea.  As you know, low potassium (hypokalemia) can be very serious and can cause problems with the heart rhythm in severe instances.  Low potassium can be caused by low potassium intake in the diet, medications, and sometimes we don't know why patients have low potassium.    If you think your potassium is low please have it checked medically.

Maybe phlebitis: Hot, painful leg often with swelling is seen with phlebitis, cellulitis, trauma.  It is adviseable to seek immediate medical advice in such a situation.

Lle + eye: Not many things involve both the eye and the left leg. To fit both into one place, it'd be the brain. Otherwise they could be unrelated. Location in the leg is all important for diagnosis - entire leg, thigh, outer/inner, shin/foot. Recommend a good history&physical for each problem to determine if related or separate issues & to see if eye exam, neurologic exam of left leg, MRI are needed.

my concern lies with my feet being constantly cold.  they are cold to the point of being painful even when it is hot.  my leg pain is mostly situated in my knee that i have had surgery on and occasional cramps in my calf muscles.  ?

Cold feet: Cold feet may be a chronic complaint for some healthy people or may be due to underactive thyroid, anemia, anticoagulants(in some patients), arterial blockages in the legs, beta blocker medications,  Calcium or magnesium deficiency may cause muscular cramps. Chronic knee symptoms are best evaluated by your orthopedic surgeon and may have something to do with your calf cramps.

Bite: It could. However, a lesion on the leg that is hot to touch, regardless of the cause, needs to be examined by a doctor. It could be infected and require antibiotic, especially if the lesion is tender and getting larger.

Short acting: Icy  hot doesn't last very long. The real question is why do you have burning pain in your leg? If your primary care doctor can't figure it out as k your doctor to refer you to a neurologist for an evaluation.

Icy hot: This is a reaction to the icy hot. Do not use it anymore and the redness should go away. If it does not get it checked out.

Possibilities: Infection (cellulitis) should be ruled out, but since both legs are involved, it's more likely that this a form of neuritis/neuropathy. Do you have diabetes, malabsorbtion, malnutrition, anorexia or other known congenital condition? A full workup may be necessary to determine the cause.

i wanted to know if  loss of sensation in legs (meaning when i blow a hot hairdryer on legs i don't feel pressure or heat) is this a concern?

Yes: Peripheral neuropathy requires evaluation. Do you have DM or vit B12 def or spinal stenosis

i'm 7 weeks pregnant can i use icy hot for my leg?

Accepted Answer

Yes: there should be no problem with using icy hot for your legs.  Be careful you don't get it anywhere that can burn or in your eyes.  There is minimal topical absorption. I would not put it on your tummy.
