i was bit by a horse fly 3 days ago which has a large blister. how long will it take for the blister to burst and should it be covered up when it does?

A few days: What you're seeing is your body's immune response. It should go away in 4-5 days. If it lasts longer or gets worse it could be the start of an infection. It's best to leave the area alone and only cover it if its in an area that gets rubbed.

Don't shave: To some extent public hair serves to cushion the area and help to dissipate sweat so it protects you in two ways from blisters.  Also shaving over blisters or any kind of raw skin could make it too painful for you to ride.

i think i have a spider or horse fly bite from beach stay. i scratched, now tender. how long does it last? how to tell what it is? using neosporin.

About 1 week: Watch for any signs of infection. It the site is getting bigger, is warm or tender, or if there is any drainage have it checked. Keeping it clean and using polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) is great. All the best.

Minimize scratching.: To minimize your scratching, use a topical hydrocortisone cream and an oral antihistamine. If those don't help or the bite is getting larger, painful, redder or draining pus, please see your doctor.

Could be: It is common for some people's bodies to over react to some insect bites. It will usually grow bigger for 2-3 days. As long as it is itching more than tender it isn't likely to be infected. Also if it is just on the one area that was bit it doesn't sound like an allergy, just an exaggerated localized reaction.  Ice massage and antihistamines might help.

? Impetigo: What you describe sounds suspicious for impetigo, a bacterial infection of your skin. You have a tiny break in your skin that you were not even aware of, and the normal skin bacteria could then enter in and cause a local strep infection. The "scabbing" is what makes me especially suspicious. Try washing with antibacterial wash, put on antibiotic ointment, and if not better in a few days, see doc.

If bitten by a dog &amp;: wound is minor - wash w soap &amp;water, apply antibiotic ointment &amp;cover w bandaid /bandage. Get tetanus shot if you haven’t had one in last 10 years or your don’t know. For more serious wound or possible infection, apply pressure &amp;obtain urgent care. Per mayo clinic, if last tetanus shot was &gt; 5 years ago &amp;wound is “deep or dirty”, a booster shot may be recommended. If there is ^’ed rabies &gt;.

See your Dr: Based on your symptoms, I would see a Dr as soon as possible. I would be concerned about infection from the bite and a need for antibiotics.  If the "blister" is an abscess it may need to be drained, however only your Dr can make that decision based on your physical exam.
